UK REVERSES THE £3,000 ENTRY BOND ON NIGERIANS
A spokesman for Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Ministry told
Press in Abuja yesterday that the United Kingdom has rescinded its plan to
place a £3,000 bond on Nigerians seeking entry to the country, The Sunday Times of London had quoted UK Home
Secretary Theresa May (23/6/2013) as saying that a pilot scheme that would
target visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana
would take off in November under which travellers from those countries would
pay a cash deposit of £3,000 to deter immigration abuse.
The spokesman for the Foreign Affairs Ministry of
Nigeria in Abuja, Mr. Ode Ogbole, when
contacted, replied via text message that: “It’s been rescinded”. He did not
give further details and did not answer subsequent telephone calls. Another
official of the ministry of foreign affair in Nigeria who chose to remain
anonymous also told said that a message from the UK government rescinding the
plan had been sent to the Presidency.
Earlier yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Olugbenga
Ashiru told journalists at the ministerial platform commemorating the mid-term
anniversary of the Jonathan administration that no official communication had
been received from the British government by Nigeria on the subject assuring
Nigerians that the government is always
ready to defend and protect them all over the world. The House of
Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee has described the proposed UK entry
bond as discriminatory and unacceptable. “This is totally discriminatory and
unacceptable. It is targeted to non-white Commonwealth. We would take a
critical look at the policy as it affects Nigerians and come up with a way
forward,” committee chairman Rep. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje (PDP Abia) said in a
statement.

NIGERIANS AND SOME ASIAN COUNTRY NATIONALS TO PAY A SUM OF £3,000 ‘BOND’ FEE TO VISIT the UK
Visitors
from Nigeria and other “high risk” countries in Asia and Africa such as India,
Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Ghana will be forced to pay a £3,000 cash
bond (that is about #700,000.00) before they can enter United Kingdom.
The
enforcement of the payment of the fee will commence fully From November which
is when a pilot scheme that will target
visitors from the listed countries will take effect. The visitors will forfeit
the £3,000 if they overstay in Britain and fail to return to their home
countries by the time their visa has expired.
The
controversial move by the UK home secretary, Theresa May, to introduce the
Australian-style system reflects her determination to show that the
Conservatives are serious about cutting immigration in the UK.
Ms
May said: “This is the next step in making sure our immigration system is more
selective, bringing down net migration from the hundreds of thousands to the
tens of thousands, while still welcoming the brightest and the best to
Britain.”
She
added: “In the long run we’re interested in a system of bonds that deters
overstaying and recovers costs if a foreign national has used our public
services.”
The Home Office is
targeting countries which have high volumes of visitor visa applications and
what it deems to be relatively high levels of fraud and abuse.
NIGERIAN SUPER EAGLE WHOOPED BY SPAIN YESTERDAY
Nigerian
super eagle has been trashed out of the 2013 confederation cup by spain
yesterday after a 3 – 0 game. The 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, the ninth FIFA Confederations Cup, is an
international association
football tournament currently being held in Brazil, as a prelude to
the 2014
FIFA World Cup. The
eight-team tournament began on 15 June 2013 and will conclude with the final on
30 June 2013. Host nation Brazil are also the defending champions.
If
one would analyse the players; we would have Nig vs Spain: Spain (8 Barca
players,2 Madrid players) vs Nigeria (1 chelsea player, Enyeama & 9 moving
objects). Funny but that is what the game yesterday was like. I can assure you
that many Nigerians did not watch the match because the already correctly
predicted a defeat for the super eagle. But even at that I would still say that
the Nigerian team were just SUPERB. They tried their best even though the match
was that of an inexperienced team against a bunch of champions. Although a miracle
would not have been out of place considering the fact that that is what the
fans of super eagle were relying on, it just didn’t happen.
My
little Advice 4 the Coach is 4 him 2 reconcile with all super eagle Star and
experience players in the likes of Osaze Odemiwighe and co 2 stand in 4 others
incase of injuries. The Spain was not in any way better than us but we were
inexperienced in all ramifications.

STEPS TO ONLINE MINI IMPORTATION
BUSINESS IN NIGERIA (START WITH AS LOW AS 10000 NAIRA)
v A means to make
payment to the site – I use a debit ATM card issued by a Nigerians bank; yes, a
Nigerian bank known as United Bank of Africa (UBA). The name of the card is UBA
Africard;
The card can be gotten from any
branch of UBA. You don‟t need to be an
account holder with the bank to apply for this card.
The card is of two types; the
personalized and the non- personalized. Simply go for the non-personalized so
you get it instantly upon applying. I‟ve also confirmed that the ATM cards from GTB, Fidelity
and Zenith Banks are accepted on these sites. So, if you already have any, use
it!
All you need is a valid identity
which should be any of international passport, drivers‟ license or national ID card and a minimum of N500 (five
hundred naira), though some persons have claimed that they got theirs without
paying a dime.
v A Valid Home
Address – This is very important. Even though most courier companies would
prefer to call you up to come pick up your item from their office, you need to
make sure the address you use as your shipping address is easily traceable.
In cases the item is sent to your
address, you might end up not receiving your package if you filled in an
invalid address –If you are not too sure
about it or If you think your address is not traceable, please use your office
address or a friend’s address that
is ok.
Example of a traceable adress; “No.50
murtalla muhammed Street, Off first Avenue, Gwarimpa Abuja”
Also make sure, you find a way of
including your mobile phone number on the address. 99% of the time in my own
case, they courier guys called me up on phone to come pick my package.

you buy high in demand items you can resell here for funny prices.
-
DHGate.com – This site looks very much like Aliexpress. In addition,
they offer free shipping site-wide on every item. They accept the cards I
mentioned earlier.
-
TomTop.com – This is another site that sells great stuffs at incredible
prices. Dealing with them is pretty simple. Same steps you take with
Aliexpress.com and DHGate.com
-
iOffer.com – My friend uses this one a lot. What would have seemed to be
a „wahala‟ here if is that
they only accept PayPal. However, with services
like this one, you can successfully pay to this site.

FATAI ROLLING DOLLAR DIES: NIGERIA'S JONATHAN PAYS TRIBUTE
Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan has paid
tribute to veteran highlife musician Fatai Rolling Dollar who died on
Wednesday.
The guitarist and singer had "enthralled his
teeming followers" during a career of more than 64 years, Mr Jonathan
said.
Fatai was best known for his song, They Cannot
Match Us, which criticised younger generations.
The exact cause of Fatai's death, or his age, is
not known.
He died after more than 10 days in a coma, and
was aged either 85 or 87, Nigeria's This Day newspaper reports.
But he was still touring the US tour just a few
weeks ago.
In highlife's golden era in the 1950s and 1960s,
Fatai, whose real name was Fatai Olagunju, was a nationally celebrated
performer.
But he then disappeared from the music scene for
about 25 years and battled poverty in Lagos before making a comeback in the
past decade.
Musician Ade Bantu told the BBC that Fatai had
lost none of his talent and was still entertaining on stage.
"You are talking about a gentlemen in his
80s still performing and recording and playing very well - he was like a
metronome."
'Lazy'
Mr Jonathan believed the vacuum Fatai's death has
created in the Nigerian entertainment industry will be hard to fill, his
statement said.
In the 1950s, Fatai is said to have
revolutionized the agidigbo or thumb piano - which he then moved onto the
guitar.
The BBC's Will Ross in Lagos says the musician
was influenced by Ghana's highlife scene, as well as calypso from the
Caribbean.
His music was a great influence on other Nigerian
musicians, including Fela Kuti.
In an interview with AFP new agency more than a
year ago, Fatai bemoaned the hip-hop music that now dominates in Nigeria.
He said "a good musician should know how to
play any instrument", showing his irritation with artists he accused of
sometimes being "lazy" and simply seeking "easy money", AFP
reports.

MOVEMENT OF SCRAP AIRPLANE CAUSES PANIC IN LAGOS - NIGERIA
TODAY 13 June 2013 has been a very beautiful day except
for the fearful news that was spreading on social media during the early hours
of this morning that there has been a plane crash in Igando, a Lagos suburb. The National
Emergency Management Agency NEMA spokesperson for South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye
debunked the rumour saying that it was a scrap airplane that is being evacuated
from the airport. He clarified that the aircraft was at Mangoro and not Igando
as was being circulated in social media.
"It was just
the scrap of an aircraft that was being evacuated from the airport, the federal
government had issued a directive that all scrap aircraft be evacuated from all
airports, as well as scrap ships from our waterways," Mr. Farinloye told
news men. He further said that "The evacuation is usually done at night to
forestall this kind of public misinformation by mischief makers. We were there
at 11.20 p.m. yesterday," he added.
The airplane that triggered this whole panic is a junk
plane belonging to late Gabriel Oduyemi founder of Bethel Ministries. The
American registered aircraft, marked- N972TF, with inscription G O, Gabriel
Oduyemi Crusades was being towed from the Murtala Muhammed International
Airport in Ikeja area of Lagos and dumped near Dapsey petrol station in Igando
area of the state. The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management
Agency, NAMA, Engineer Nnamdi Udoh said in a statement that the aircraft
belonging to the late clergyman had long been parked at a NAMA facility up till
Wednesday night when it was eventually removed. Udoh said the aircraft
was released to Captain M.J.Ekeinde who will be using it for educational
purposes in Badagry, Lagos. He said a cross section of the wings was removed to
ease transportation to its new location.
