USING YOUR ATM CARDS TO SHOP ONLINE (Nigerian bank-issued ATM cards)

 

It is so amazing how we see adverts everywhere claiming that we could use our Nigerian ATM cards to shop online and just how 'impossible' it is to do that. TRUTH BE TOLD: you cannot just walk into the bank, open an account, get your ATM card, and think that 'that is all'. No way my dear. if you want to shop online with any Nigerian-Issued ATM card (debit card in most cases), you will have to choose from a limited list of card issued by these banks; UBA (which is the UBA AFRI CARD),

GTBANK, ZENITH bank...these are the most reliable from my research and experience.  

The little detail that the customer service personnel at the bank will not tell you is that before you can use your normal ATM card for any internet transaction, you will need to activate it for that purpose. except for the UBA AFRICARD which is specifically designed for internet use and off course the zenith bank web surfer. for GTBank atm cards which are very reliable and cheap to use compared to the others, before you can use it to purchase anything on the internet you must walk into a GTBank Branch and request for your card to be activated for online banking which will be done for you.
To get more information I will advice you visit your bank and make the necessary inquiry as it applies to your bank.
